  • Yossi Becher, born and raised in Kibbutz Be’eri, is one of Israel’s modern-day heroes. Over his 30-year military career, he commanded elite IDF units including the Paratroopers Recon Unit, Battalion 101, Maglan Unit, the Paratroopers Brigade, Gaza Division, and the IDF General Staff Corps.  Itay Shelly is an engineering student at Texas A&M University and formerly served as a senior manager at the Friends of Israeli Scouts organization in Dallas.

On October 7th, 2023, Itay was in Israel during his gap year. Experiencing the horrors of that day firsthand left him feeling as though the world had collapsed. In response, he and his friends immediately mobilized to volunteer across the country—supporting children, assisted living centers, and anyone in need.

Since returning to the U.S., Itay has continued to seek meaningful ways to contribute. Joining GVURA has given him the opportunity to support Israel's heroes and remain engaged in efforts that deeply resonate with his values and personal experience.
